Aspen Hat
The Aspen Hat crochet pattern is available to purchase from Ravelry and Etsy!
I wanted to create a simple row repeat hat which was thick and warm but not too bulky. The stitch pattern I used for the Aspen Hat and matching fingerless mitts is perfect.
The result is the Aspen Hat, a beautifully textured crochet pattern which is a perfect blend of style, warmth and simplicity.
Worked from the bottom up, this pattern features a classic ribbed brim followed by a two row repeat stitch pattern creating a thick, cosy fabric without unnecessary bulk. Plus, with minimal sewing required, its a project which can work up quite quickly.

Construction

The Aspen Hat is made from the bottom up, starting with the ribbing for the brim. The ribbing is worked using back loop only crochet stitches. You can easily customise the brim width. Simply just add extra stitches to the brim if you need a wider brim or for a narrower brim simply work less stitches in the row.
The main body of the hat is worked with a variety of single crochet and double crochet stitches.
There are round decreases for shaping towards the crown, after the last round you will use your yarn needle and the yarn tail to close up the hole and fasten off.
The Aspen hat can be finished off with a pom pom or worn as a beanie.
